Project Management

The structure of a project will vary according to many factors including the size of your company, type of industry, the regulatory environment and the anticipated volume of production.

DFM Projects will tailor its approach to suit your requirements, your procedures and your regulatory environment.

We have successfully conducted New Product Introduction, Product Improvement and Process Improvement projects.

We will work with and manage other service providers, including your own staff, to ensure that project requirements are met.

A typical product development project will tend to follow the following stages:

  • Your idea and outline business case
  • Concept Phase:
    • Define requirements at Concept Meeting
    • Investigate the design options
    • Define the concept design
    • Build & Test Concept Prototype(s)
  • Note on Concept Approval: It is essential for you the customer to have a high level of confidence in the following before approval to start the Design Phase is given:
    • Are the key functional requirements met?
    • Is there a potential demand for the product and will it meet the user’s needs? This may require market testing and in certain cases clinical testing or system testing
    • Is the Business Case still valid? Establish project costs, product cost and price, market size and share, forecast profit
  • Design Phase:
    • Detailed design to suit selected production processes
    • Production Intent Prototype Build
    • Functional and Safety Tests
    • Regulatory Testing
    • Product Approval
  • Production Preparation Phase:
    • Pre-production build (by production operatives using production facilities)
    • Incorporate design and process changes resulting from pre-production build
    • Completion of documentation (e.g. validation reports, risk management file, build procedure, operating manual)
    • Pilot build
    • Final product validation
    • Product release / Declaration of conformity
  • Production Phase:
    • Engineering support to production
    • Project close-out

We recognise your need to be kept informed of project progress and we will report progress to you on a weekly basis, or as you require.

DFM Projects can provide project management for the entire project, or for each project phase or for discrete work packages within the project.
